collective exhibition of photography, IDIA Photographic Society, 2024
The second edition of the cyclical event of the Idia Photographic Society, the joint exhibition “Spojrzenia”, presents the latest achievements of its members: Artur Brocki, Anna Faber, Stanisław Jawor, Marcin Kania, Małgorzata Kozakowaka, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, Aneta Mudyna, Mieczysław Nowak and Paweł Stożek.
The exhibition also presents works by Marek Koziba, co-founder of the group, as a tribute to his memory.
The nine people belonging to the group are connected by friendship and a common passion – photography. It is an area of research, discussion and artistic exploration. Everyone has found their own, original path of practicing photography, which is why the joint exhibition is such a unique and valuable opportunity to see a wide cross-section of contemporary artistic attitudes in the field of photography. The differences concern both the technology and the method and the designated purpose of the work. The exhibition includes, among others, photographs taken using traditional, analogue techniques, as well as digital, documentary and those that create new, original spaces. The title of the exhibition clearly refers to the method of functioning of the group and its assumptions, which are based on respect for creative freedom and a different view of the world. In his photographic series, Artur Brocki focuses on metaphysical and religious threads. His moving, black and white photographs encourage reflection and contemplation. Anna Faber also uses the language of monochromatic, black and white photography. The economy of means of expression in her landscapes with the road motif allowed her to obtain an extremely noble image that can be interpreted symbolically. Landscape is also the subject of Stanisław Jawor’s photographs. His colourful cycle with the lazu motif attracts attention with the beauty of the play of light. Marcin Kania presented this year a cycle of atmospheric photographs with urban motifs. They delight with their colour range and technological perfection. A completely different solution is proposed by Małgorzata Kozakowska, who creates a new, original vision in a cycle of portraits of women in masks. Her photographs are a testimony to her sensitivity to colour and matter and extraordinary imagination. Krzysztof Kwiatkowski’s photographic triptychs are extraordinary stories. Observed and carefully composed everyday situations are arranged into universal concepts and metaphors. Aneta Mudyna’s intriguing work is a photographic documentation of an extensive, intermedia artistic project. The starting point was an abandoned building of a former hospital, into whose walls, with the help of actors, the author breathed new life. Mieczysław Nowak presented a large-format photograph of a tree. Thanks to the phenomenal contrasts of light and shadow, he captured the viewer’s attention, and the presence of the figure at the foot of the tree gave an additional, metaphorical layer of meaning. Paweł Stożek reveals another, hidden dimension of reality with his photographs, and his amazing works are proof of the unlimited possibilities of creative imagination. The oversized structures of plastic, common objects change in his photographs into cosmic spaces and unknown planets with beautiful colors. A sophisticated photograph by Marek Koziba, taken during a trip, complements the exhibition.
